The Senior Project is a student-selected exploration of a topic which results in a research paper, a project or product, an electronic portfolio and a presentation, is required by the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation, Columbus, Indiana, in order for students to receive their high school diploma. The Senior Project moves students away from departmentalized learning toward a more interdisciplinary approach. This approach is one which allows students to use a variety of skills in the areas of writing, speaking, research and documentation. The process required in completing a senior project provides the learner with multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression with the outcome being students who are purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal directed. The Senior Project is an opportunity for students to pursue a topic of interest, while practicing "real world" skills which will be required for success beyond high school.
