Inspired by adjustable aircraft seats (Rose, 2013), dinner parties (Novak, 2016) and bowling (Moore,2016) we created a UDL analogy using the familiar process of making a meringue. We further explored how the key messages from that analogy could be applied to lesson design from the Australian Curriculum - Health and Physical Education. The process of developing these videos highlighted the importance of having a clearly articulated ‘big idea’ (Wiggins, McTighe, 2005) so that designing for multiple means of engagement, representation and action did not result in a detour from the intended learning outcome.
